The Overlords
For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito. It is set in the fantasy genre, and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past eleven years. I either found your email address, got it from you, or got it from a friend of yours! Please continue to read this newsletter, and visit my website!
What’s New
To start with, I hope everyone had a great summer. I know I did, but fall is just around the corner and it’s time to get back to work. As you all know, I have been waiting for my manuscript evaluation from Gardenia Press. I was hoping to receive it in August, but it took until yesterday for it to come in. It was worth the wait. With a little more hard work I know I will be published! There was some constructive criticism, which I expected, but the overall evaluation was extremely positive. Here are some excerpts:
“Finding the seven rooms to overcome in the end provided a surge of interest and became a page-turner to see who would survive.”
“The sentence variation was excellent, his words really painted a clear picture, and I feel he is a gifted writer as well as a great storyteller.”
The “General Comments” section read:
“The readability of this work was excellent. The pace moved consistently and the flow was smooth and easy to read. Though it sounds as if I’m being overly critical, most of the flaws are minor. All in all, this was a great story, one that was easy to read with exceptional visuals and outstanding characters. The author obviously put a great deal of thought and work into the manuscript, making it a joy to read.”
Finally, the Recommendations section ended: “With the above corrections made, I would urge the author to resubmit. At that point, I would recommend publication.”
Don’t get me wrong, there were some things that they found wrong with the story, but I’ll take care of that! I have a really good feeling about what’s next. Gardenia Press marked up my manuscript and I have it in my possession now. I have been looking at the recommendations and most of the criticisms have been grammatical. I’m looking to make these changes a fast as I can so that I can resubmit my work and get published some time next year.
About The Project
I will be working hard on my next revision of Legend of the Treasure. I will also be working on my sequel, The Talisman of Unification. I’m up to Chapter 14 in that story, but I will have to put it aside to finish book one. There is so much to be done! I have also designed Overlords business cards, which I should have this weekend. I’ll be sure to hand some out the next time I see one of you!
Acknowledgements
At this time, I would like to thank everyone who has helped get me to the point I’m at. Without all of you, I would never have made it this far. I’ll be calling on my “staff” again to help me tighten my manuscript one more time.
Also, I have another reader, Jake Mallinson. I’m sure he’s enjoying the story like the other kids! Remember kids, if you finished the story, please fill out your questionnaire and return it to me. Your input is greatly appreciated!
