The Overlords
For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito. It is set in the fantasy genre, and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past eleven years. I either found your email address, got it from you, or got it from a friend of yours! Please continue to read this newsletter, and visit my website!
What’s New
Hi everyone. This is a special edition of The Overlords Newsletter. I would like to take the time to further introduce you to a fellow author and friend of mine, Debra Lauman. As you might remember, Deb is the person who led me to Gardenia Press, and has helped me make contacts in the literary world. I recently met her face to face and she is a wonderful person. She currently has finished her novel, I. Joseph Kellerman, and it is available for sale. Deb’s novel is in the literary fiction genre, and is a great piece of work. I told her that she could have a “shameless plug” in my newsletter, and she graciously accepted. So, without further adieu, I give you Debra Lauman:
Hi friends of Mike Squatrito! Debra "Ramkitten" Lauman, the hiking writer, here. I'm also the author of a book that Mike has invited me to blatantly plug in his very own newsletter. I didn't have the heart to turn him down, sooooo here goes....
Advance copies of the novel I wrote while hiking the Appalachian Trail a few years ago are now available. "I. Joseph Kellerman" was published by Gardenia Press, a small house that is -- as you may have heard from Mike -- shutting down due to the recent death of its founder and president, Elizabeth Collins. When it comes to my book, that means "I. Joseph Kellerman" will not be released to distributors or, therefore, to bookstores, until a new publisher picks it up. So, for the time being, all of the peddling and plugging will be done solely by me. I have plenty of copies around the house, which I'd be most happy to sell for $12.95. (Per book, that is. Not the house.) To obtain ordering information, stop by www.debralauman.com/books/ijkorder.html.
So what's this book about, you ask? Well, although I wrote the first draft while lying in my tent, night after night, with my flashlight in my mouth so I could scribble with one hand and prop my hiker-weary head up with the other, "I. Joseph Kellerman" has nothing whatsoever to do with hiking. Here's the back-of-the-book blurb:
Within the boundaries of a world peopled by the troubled souls who come to 4991 Hopewell Street and by one devoted assistant, a tale of self-discovery and redemption unfolds.
The shingle outside that Boston row house reads, "I. Joseph Kellerman, Psychiatrist," but inside exists a tormented man. Under the watchful eye peering through a hole hidden by a bizarre painting, Dr. Kellerman listens to the problems of those who sit in the yellow armchair. The same yellow chair beckons the doctor, who struggles there with his own demons, created when he was a child in Nazi occupied Europe. As he comes to terms with his past and attempts to salvage what remains of his future, the psychiatrist and those who know him perform a dance of relationships, both imaginary and real.
Well, I've taken up enough of Mike's newsletter. But if you'd like to read some samples of my writing, excerpts from "I. Joseph Kellerman," and my ever-expanding collection of trail journals, come on over and visit my website at http://www.debralauman.com.
Okay, Mike, back to you!
I hope you find your curiosity piqued after reading Deb’s pitch. Check out her website and do yourself a favor and buy the book! I am reading it now and am thoroughly enjoying it. If you do pick up a copy, be sure to tell Deb that you saw her blurb in my newsletter. Deb and I thank you in advance.
I will be sending out my usual newsletter in the next coming week. Until then, take care!!!
