SCROLL OF THE OVERLORDS

Unraveling the Dark Secrets of the Overlords Mythology

Issue #11 March 20, 2004

The Overlords

For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito.  The story is set in the fantasy genre, and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past eleven years.  Either I found your email address, or got it from you, or from a friend of yours!  Please continue to read this newsletter, and visit my website!

What’s New

Happy first day of spring – even though we still have snow falling from the sky!  For anyone interested in getting back his or her refund for Gardenia Press’ FirstNovelFest 2003, you might as well forget it.  Shortly after sending out my previous newsletter, I received a bankruptcy notice stating that Gardenia Press had filed for bankruptcy and that they had listed me as one of their creditors.  I’m assuming anyone else Gardenia Press owed money to also received this notice.  I then received an email from Bob Collins a few days later stating that he planned to pay everyone back, even though he filed for bankruptcy protection.  I’m not holding my breath, but hopefully he can pay back everyone in time.

About The Project

The “perfectionist” bug has bitten me.  Over the past month or so, I have been working on my query letter and synopsis, which I plan to send out to prospective agents.  Unfortunately, I just don’t feel that they are good enough and I don’t want to send them out only to be rejected.  I have to thank Sharon Contillo and Deb Lauman for reviewing my countless revisions.  I’m hoping to have both finished by the next newsletter.  I already have about 70 agents I have targeted for submission, and I’m almost ready to mail out my packages.

Last year I submitted queries and synopses to over 55 agents.  Looking at the work I sent to them makes me cringe!  It was all wrong and screamed amateur!  I’m hoping for perfection this time around, and I’m sure someone will pick me up in the near future.  Again, cross your fingers!

Excerpt of the Month

The following excerpt is when Harrison and his friends encounter the wolves.  Sampson is a dog similar to Lance:

Harrison tried to focus on one attacker at a time, but beasts ran everywhere.  In a brief instant, he managed

to see Sampson stop in his tracks and look in the direction behind Aidan.  With a deep bark he caught the

attention of his companion dogs.  They both stopped on his command.  The next thing Harrison knew, all

three dogs teleported out of the camp.
