The Overlords

For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito.  The story is set in the fantasy genre, and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past eleven years.  Either I found your email address, or got it from you, or from a friend of yours!  Please continue to read this newsletter, and visit my website!

What’s New

I would like to start this newsletter with some good news.  My brother Pete and his wife Kathy are the proud parents of their new baby boy, Christian.  Christian was born on March 27th at 7:30 PM, and weighed in at 8 lbs 6 oz.  Everyone is home and doing fine, though Kathy did have some tough times after the delivery.  I’ll be posting pictures at a later date.  I can’t wait to buy my new nephew some very loud birthday gifts in the future, as payback for the gifts my brother bought for my son!

On the publishing front, I have sent out 32 query letters and 25 synopsis/chapter packages to prospective agents this past week.  I should be hearing back from them over the next month or so.  I really polished up the query letter and synopsis and I feel that this will be the time when I finally get noticed.  Keep you fingers crossed and say an extra prayer.  I want all of you to be able to say “I knew him when …”.

About The Project

I have posted my new synopsis on my website, as well as my query letter.  Feel free to give it a read, but I warn you, the synopsis gives away the ending!  If you don’t want to know, don’t read it!  Just to give you all a little insight in how my brain works, I struggled for about a month trying to rework my synopsis.  Then one day a little light bulb went on in my head.  I realized that I was telling the story, instead of giving it that omniscient point of view.  I immediately sat down and typed for about 40 minutes, and came up with the perfect synopsis (or so I think).  If you haven’t figured it out yet, I have a really good feeling about this.

I’m also looking for more email addresses.  I’m asking you to forward names and addresses of friends and relatives to me so that I might add them to my newsletter mailing list.  I will group them together and write an introductory letter to them stating how I received their information.  You all know me – I don’t create spam!  The more names I get, the more sales I can eventually make.  So, forward those names to me!

The following excerpt is when Harrison describes his core beliefs to Swinkle:

“My father instilled in me the belief that you should always do the right thing.  You should always help those in need, and you should not put yourself ahead of others,” he said.

“I realized at an early age that I was skilled with weaponry, was very dexterous, and truly enjoyed combat training.  However, my will to help others became my strongest motivating factor.  Once I had that epiphany, my life’s path was set.”
