The Overlords

For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito.  The story is set in the fantasy genre, and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past eleven years.  I either found your email address, or got it from you, or from a friend of yours!  Please continue to read this newsletter, and visit my website!

What’s New

Hi everyone!  I hope all of you are enjoying the summer, even if the weather has not cooperated.  I received my first package of revisions from my editor, Laura, and I have to say that I haven’t seen so many redlines since grade school!  But, all of the markups make the book better, and nothing is taken away from the storyline.  I have implemented the changes to the 110 pages I received, and will be sending them back to Laura for review.  Laura told me that she would be mailing me the next 90 pages shortly.  Just what I love – more work!

 About The Project

Laura pointed out to me a rather big problem with my book.  While editing the story, she noticed that all the characters sounded the same, which is to say they sounded like me, the narrator.  I have been busy trying to give each character his or her own voice.  Another thing I have added has been more “motion” to the characters in the form of gestures, facial expressions, and movement.  I have to say, I didn’t see this while I wrote the book, but looking back now, I can understand exactly what Laura meant.  Let’s hope it all works out in the end.

Miscellaneous Events

The wedding plans are moving forward.  Lea and I have found the spot on Siesta Key beach in Florida where we will have our wedding ceremony.  We have booked a 3-hour sunset cruise for our reception, and will party it up all night long!  Just about everything is set and all we have left to do is wait – and save money!

This Sunday, August 1st will be my nephew Christian’s christening, and guess who’s the Godfather?  Yup, my brother and his wife are taking a big gamble having me be an example for their son!

Lastly, Diane Blue will be making her second appearance of the summer at the Newport Blues Café on Wednesday, August 11th.  I missed her last time, but I’m going to make every effort to get there this time.  Hope to see you there!
