The Overlords
For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito. The story is set in the fantasy genre, and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past eleven years. I either found your email address, or got it from you, or from a friend of yours! What’s New
Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s 2006? Outside of getting married, I hope this year is better than the last! I’ll be starting my new job tomorrow morning after a long time off. But, I did have some news to report since last month.
Matt Walton, a fifth-grader at St. Luke’s School in Barrington, RI had asked if he could read my book and then ask me some questions as part of a class assignment. Not only did I let Matt read Legend of the Treasure, on December 21st I spoke at his school and talked about my book, writing, creating characters, and the overall novel process in general. The children asked me great questions and seemed to be inspired after my speech. I even received fan mail the following week! I can only hope that I reached at least one child to release the writer inside himself.
About The Project
I’ve been looking at self-publishers the past month and have contacted the people at iUniverse. They seem to have the packages that I’m looking for in regards to publishing my book and the costs seem to be reasonable. I’ll have to make a decision soon so that I can start the publishing process. Though this isn’t the way I wanted to get my book out there, I have to start somewhere and if I keep the book on the shelf, no one will ever get a chance to read it. At least this way I’ll be able to have a book for people to read, and if I’m lucky, I’ll break even with the costs in the long run. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
My work on the Talisman of Unification is also progressing. I’m up to Chapter 7 on my second pass and feel I’m right on schedule to finish my editing by spring. Hopefully, this book will be ready for the editor after book one is released, which will allow a quick turnaround for my sequel, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself! Until next month ….
