Issue #36 December 14, 2006

The Overlords

For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito.  The story is set in the fantasy genre and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past fifteen years.  I either found your email address, got it from you, or from a friend of yours!  Please continue to read this newsletter and visit my website!

What’s New

Overlords Enterprises is moving forward!  In the past month or so, I’ve been on quite a roll.  Here’s a little of what’s been going on:

On 11/25, I appeared at A Novel Idea in Bristol, RI and sold 10 more copies of Legend of the Treasure.

On 11/29, I lectured at the University of Rhode Island about the Concepts of Writing and Publishing.  I spoke to roughly 30-35 students, as well as a journalist major who interviewed me after my speech for an article in the Quad Angles alumni magazine.

On 12/1, I spoke to 150 6th thru 8th grade students at St. Philomena’s school in Portsmouth, RI.  I preached to the kids about the writing process and how to be creative, followed by an inspiring “monster creation” session where I let the students create their own character.  The lecture was well-received, and I extended my stay by having lunch with 10 boys from the school.  They were so excited about making their monster that they asked if they could create a sidekick for him, which they dived right into.  Now, I’m hoping to work out an arrangement where I will act as a consultant to the school and help with their creative writing classes.  Furthermore, I was asked to participate in the March into Reading celebration, where I will lecture to about 300 people at Salve University in Newport, RI in February.  Details to come later.

Also on 12/1, I had a brainstorming session with Gail Alofsin of the Newport Yachting Center on how to promote my business.  One of her interns, Steve, pointed me in the direction of blogger.com, where I have a blog called simply, The Overlords.  You can get to it via the website, theoverlords.blogspot.com.  Gail also got me in touch with a director of marketing at ABC6 in Providence, RI, a local news station.  I sent a press kit to them and I’m waiting to hear back.  Cross your fingers.

On 12/7, I dropped off an autographed copy of Legend of the Treasure in a bookstore in Key West, FL while I was on business travel the week of 12/4.  Go to my blog for details!

On 12/9 I spoke with a representative who oversees the bookstores in T.F. Green Airport and I sent her a press kit as well.  I’m awaiting word back from her on how to get my book there.

Upcoming Events:

12/20 – East Providence High School lecture on the Concepts of Writing and Publishing

12/20 – Photo Shoot at URI for upcoming article in QuadAngles

12/21 – Cocktail party social event with Gail Alofsin’s team and area representatives of interest; a great place to rub elbows and network with marketing people in the local area

12/22 – Curtis Corner Middle School lecture to 60, 6th graders.  Another monster session is in order!

Get those Christmas gift book orders in to me soon.  I should have plenty of books for everyone, but the closer we get to Christmas, the harder it will be to get it to you on time.

That’s enough for this month, more details to come next month ….  Get your reviews posted online!!!

About The Project

The Talisman of Unification has had to take a back seat due to the recent activity of  Legend of the Treasure.  I was able to work on chapters 7 to 12 while on the airplane to Key West.  I’ll have to make more time for this story or it’ll never get finished!!!
