The Overlords
For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito. The story is set in the fantasy genre and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past fifteen years. I either found your email address, got it from you, or from a friend of yours! What’s New
Happy 2007! I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday season, but 2007 is here and it’s time to get back to work. Overlord Enterprises is following the wave created in 2006 by setting up some important events for the first quarter of the New Year. But before I get to them, I want to mention that I sold 262 books from May thru December, and I can thank you all for that!!!
Starting January 19th, I will be consulting at St. Philomena’s School in Portsmouth, RI in Karin Lord’s writing class. I’ll be helping two classes of sixth graders create a fantasy story from beginning to end. Each class has 25 students and we’ll break up the kids in groups of five on the first day to brainstorm, with one group creating the fantasy world, another the good characters, another the evil characters, another will create the weapons and armor, and the last group will dream up magical items. I can’t wait to get started! I’ll be going to Karin’s class every two weeks and I’ll keep you posted on the kid’s progress.
I’ve also contacted the managers to the Paradies Shops at T. F. Green Airport in Warwick, RI, as well as the Only in Rhode Island stores in Newport and Providence, to gauge their interest in having my book in their stores. Nothing yet, but I’m still hopeful.
I’ve spoken to the producers at ABC6 in Providence, RI and they have yet to make a decision on doing a segment on me and my book. I’m hoping that my involvement in local schools will help get my face on television. How cool would that be?!?!?
I’ve sent you all an email in regards to artists. If you know of anyone who wants to showcase their wares in the fantasy genre, have them get in touch with me. I usually surf the web for my artwork, but I’d love to post people’s original work so that they can get the credit they deserve.
Finally, I’ve set up an Overlords Blog at theoverlords.blogspot.com. Check out what I do on a daily basis in regards to events, lectures, and updates to my books. This is a neat way to see my day to day activities instead of reading about it once a month. You can also access my blog via my website. Post a comment while you’re there!
Upcoming Events
I have two events scheduled so far. The first is at Custom House Coffee – a trendy new coffeehouse with a wide variety of java, a cool wi-fi area with a fireplace, couches, and tables, and all the goodies you can eat. This book signing is on Saturday, January 27th from 11:00 – 2:00 and it is located at 600 Clock Tower Plaza, West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
The second event is a Creative Writing Workshop, which is part of Salve Regina University’s March into Reading. March is national reading month, and over 300 people attend these festivities. I’ll be lecturing at the O’Hare Center at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI on Saturday, February 10th from 9:30 – 10:15. Following my lecture will be a book signing from 11:15 – 12:00. I hope to see you at both events!
About The Project
I’m busily editing The Talisman of Unification and have completed 12 chapters and have 23 more to go! My personal deadline is April 1st to complete my third and final pass before Laura Vadney uses her red pen to slash my best intentions! Well, at least she makes the story flow and sound better! Check my blog for updates.
