The Overlords

For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito.  The story is set in the fantasy genre and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past fifteen years.  I either found your email address, got it from you, or from a friend of yours!  Please continue to read this newsletter and visit my website!

What’s New

300!  No, not my batting average, but that’s the number of books sold as of this writing.  Not bad for a guy without an agent or degree in marketing or writing.  Thank you all for helping me get to this important milestone.  Now, on to the newsletter …

Things have not slowed down for Overlord Enterprises.  Where do I start?  The 6th graders at St. Philomena’s in Portsmouth, RI have really impressed me.  Both classes have created their fantasy worlds, good and evil characters, and voted on the plotline that they will use for their story.  The kids have really worked hard and are having so much fun creating their book.  This week we’ll create an outline and then they’re ready to start writing!  I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

The March Into Reading festival was a huge success.  I ran a Creative Writing Workshop for elementary school kids, and from what I saw, they truly enjoyed the experience. I showed the kids the basics on how to write a book, and then we created a character together.  The kids enjoyed giving our female wizard attributes, magical spells, and special weapons.  I also sold 11 more copies of Legend of the Treasure.  Not a bad day at all!

I have been invited to a Local Author’s Reception at the Barnes & Noble on West Main Road in Middletown, RI.  This event will showcase some of RI’s local writing talent, and I’m honored to be asked to participate.  I’ll be dropping off 20 books for my display later this week – hope to see you there!

The Paradies Shops at T. F. Green Airport in Warwick, RI, has asked for 20 books – I’m in the process of getting them there, and the Only in Rhode Island stores in Newport and Providence have purchased another 6 copies.  This will bring the total to four places where you can walk in and purchase my book.  I know if might not sound like much, but it’s a start.  Let me tell you, writing the book is definitely the EASY part!

Upcoming Events

I will be visiting the Wilbur McMahon School in Little Compton, RI this Friday (2/16) to talk to the 7th graders about writing and publishing.  In conjunction with this event, I will also be helping out their Creative Writer’s Club on 3/13, 3/20, and 3/27.  I hope I can inspire these kids to right the next great novel.

I will be signing copies of Legend of the Treasure at the Barnes & Noble on West Main Road in Middletown, RI on Wednesday, February 21st.  This is my first major bookstore gig, and I hope to generate more buzz about The Overlords.

About The Project

Editing on The Talisman of Unification is still moving forward.  I’m up to 20 completed chapters; I’m more than halfway there!  My personal deadline of April 1st is definitely in reach.  Check my blog for updates.
