SCROLL OF THE OVERLORDS

Unraveling the Dark Secrets of the Overlords Mythology

Issue #39 April 4, 2007

The Overlords

For those of you reading this for the first time, The Overlords is a trilogy written by Mike Squatrito.  The story is set in the fantasy genre and has been an ongoing project of mine for the past fifteen years.  I either found your email address, got it from you, or from a friend of yours!  Please continue to read this newsletter and visit my website!

What’s New

On Wednesday, March 21st, I was one of the featured author’s at the Local Author’s Reception at the Barnes & Noble in Middletown, RI.  This was a wonderful experience, being personally asked to be one of five local authors to talk about their book, share their stories about the publishing world, and field questions from an audience of about 30 patrons.  I’m very honored to have been a part of this event, especially since Legend of the Treasure has only been out for less than a year.  Thank you to the fans that showed up to support me, it was very nice to see your faces in the crowd.

The artwork you see in this newsletter was created by Colby Cook, a fantastic artist that heeded my call for artists.  Colby has also finished an incredible rendition of my current logo and will be preparing more artwork for some upcoming summer events at the Newport Yachting Center.  Colby will also be creating the cover artwork for The Talisman of Unification, which will be coming out hopefully by year’s end.  I’ll keep you posted on when you can purchase some of his drawings for yourself.

The 6th graders at St. Philomena’s in Portsmouth, RI are busily completing their stories.  After my last visit, I gave the kids a March 30th deadline to finish their first pass.  We’ll go over the story together and I’ll point out common mistakes in grammar and punctuation.  In the end, they’ll have a story fit to print!

I’ve finished my three-week Creative Writer’s Club workshop with eight students from the Wilbur McMahon School in Little Compton, RI.  The wild and crazy bunch of 7th graders learned some of my tricks about writing and how to create a solid outline, as well as character development, writing skills and styles.  I hope I have inspired these kids to write the next great novel – and I’m open for future workshops as well.

I dropped off 24 books at The Paradies Shops at T. F. Green Airport in Warwick, RI, a couple of weeks ago.  I’m hoping that they are making their way to exotic destination across the country as we speak!  Let’s hope that The Overlords becomes a familiar phrase outside of RI.  I’ll also be doing a book signing at the airport on Friday, April 27th, so if you know of anyone traveling that day, be sure to have them stop by and say Hi.

Upcoming Events

I will be signing copies of Legend of the Treasure at:

Snippets from The Talisman of Unification

Starting with this newsletter, I’ll be putting in snippets of my second book, The Talisman of Unification, just to whet your appetite!

In this scene, Murdock lets his feelings be known to Pondle, as he and his friends are about to embark on hunting the evil red dragon, Dracus:

The ranger spoke to his friend in a hushed tone.  “An old one-eyed warrior who reeks of alcohol is going to guide us to the most dangerous battle of our lives.”  Murdock shook his head.  “Wonderful.”  With that, the contingent of men began their trek to find Dracus.

About The Project

Editing on The Talisman of Unification is still moving forward.  I’m up to 30 completed chapters – only four more to go!  I’ve changed my release date for the book to be in the October timeframe – just as the children are settling into their new school routines, before their book fairs, and most importantly, plenty of time before the Christmas season.
